Christian persecution is still alive and kicking! Let us continue to pray for them. Story below will shock you.
A young man stopped to say “good evening” as Eugenia Montejo Gomez and her husband, leaders of a small evangelical Christian community, passed on their way to a meeting. Eugenia didn’t even recognize the man who had nearly killed her in this same rural village two years earlier.
A church member came up to her, telling Eugenia, “That is the one who cut you.”

The Attack
In February 2014, Eugenia had visited the community to enjoy worship and prayer with local believers. The village is so remote that motor vehicles cannot access it. Eugenia had been dropped off by a truck and walked the rest of the way what was often referred to as an “end of the road” village.
Though her husband was elsewhere leading one of the six small house churches they oversee in Mexico’s southernmost state, Chiapas, she wasn’t alone. Her 12-year-old son came along to protect her. The family had started taking such precautions after Zapatista rebels burned their house down the year before. The Zapatistas control the region and see themselves as defenders of the indigenous people. They view evangelical Christians with contempt because they are a threat to local traditions.
Eugenia recalls being very happy that evening, even picking some flowers as she and her son walked through an orchard on the way back towards the road.
Suddenly, a young man emerged from a shed with a machete in his hand. Without saying a word, he struck her on the shoulder.
“It didn’t hurt [at first],” Eugenia says, “I don’t know if it was the shock.”
